The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
