Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
