The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
