۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 “And stop them – they are to be questioned.” 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 What, do we then not die 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
