۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
