The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
