The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
