The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.). 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 who guard their privates 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
