Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 The magicians asked Moses, "Will you throw your staff first or shall we?" 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Pharaoh said: 'What! Do you believe before you have my permission? Surely this is a plot you have contrived to drive out the rulers from the capital. So you shall see, 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
