Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
