The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
