The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
