The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun is covered, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 when the buried infant shall be asked 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 And when the heaven is torn away. 11 And when the hell is kindled up, 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 that the Quran is the word of the honorable angelic, mighty Messenger 19 Full of power, well-established (in position) with the Lord and Master of the Throne, 20 The one who is obeyed, and trustworthy. (Other angels obey angel Jibreel). 21 And your companion is not gone mad. 22 He had surely seen Him on the clear horizon. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
