۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
