And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 Upon your heart that you may be of the warners 194 In a clear Arabic language. 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 But [even] had We bestowed it from on high upon any of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so We have caused it to enter into the hearts of the sinners, 200 They will not believe in it to the extent that they see the painful punishment. 201 The torment will strike them suddenly without their knowledge. 202 and then they will exclaim, "Could we have a respite?" 203 Do they wish to hasten Our punishment? 204 Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years 205 and then the promised punishment fell upon them, 206 of what avail would their past enjoyment be to them? 207 Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners - 208 By way of reminder; and We never are unjust. 209 And it is not the Shayatin (devils) who have brought it (this Quran) down, 210 nor does it behove them, nor does it lie in their power. 211 Indeed they have been banished from the place of hearing. 212 So do not call upon another god with Allah, lest you should be one of those who are punished. 213 And O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), warn your closest relatives. 214 And spread your wing of mercy for the believers following you. 215 If they disobey you, tell them, "I condemn your disobedient deeds". 216 And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 Who observes you when you rise (to pray) 218 And your movements among those who bow in homage to God. 219 Verily! He, only He, is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 220 Shall I tell you on whom the Satans come down? 221 They come down to every mendacious sinner, 222 Who listens to you (for spreading rumours); but most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, only those who go astray follow them. 224 Have you not seen them wandering and bewildered in every valley 225 and say things which they do not act upon, 226 Except those who believe and do good and remember Allah much, and defend themselves after they are oppressed; and they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back. 227
