The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they called him a liar and hamstrung her. So God obliterated them for their crime, and (destroyed) all of them alike. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
