Messengers! Eat of that which is good and do good deeds; I have knowledge of the things you do. 51 This community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord; so hold Me alone in fear. 52 But they cut off their religion among themselves into sects, each part rejoicing in that which is with them. 53 So leave them in their confusion for a time. 54 Do they think that because We have granted them abundance of wealth and sons, 55 We are hastening to them of good things? Nay, they do not perceive. 56 Verily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; 57 and those who believe in the signs of their Lord 58 And those who ascribe not partners unto their Lord, 59 And those who give whatsoever they give, while their hearts are anxious that unto their Lord they are to be returners. 60 it is these who hasten to do good works and vie in so doing with one another. 61 And We task not any soul except according to its capacity, and with Us is a book speaking with truth, and they will not be wronged. 62 Nay, their hearts are lost in ignorance of all this; and their deeds too vary from the way (mentioned above). They will persist in these deeds 63 Until when We overtake those who lead easy lives among them with punishment, lo! they cry for succor. 64 [But they will be told] "Cry not in supplication today; for, behold, you shall not be succoured by Us! 65 Surely My signs have been rehearsed unto you, and upon your heel ye were wont to draw back. 66 behaving arrogantly, and making fun, and talking nonsense (about the Book in your nightly chats)." 67 Should they not think upon the saying? Or, did anything come upon them that had not come upon their ancient forefathers? 68 Or did you not recognize your Messenger and, thus, denied him (Muhammad) 69 Or do they say that he is possessed? In fact, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them abhor the truth. 70 Had truth been subject to their whims the heavens and the earth and all those within them would have been depraved. In fact We had sent them their reminder, but they turned away from good advice. 71 Or do you ask of them any tribute? In that case the tribute of your Lord is better, for He is the best of providers. 72 And indeed you call them to the Straight Path. 73 And lo! those who believe not in the Hereafter are indeed astray from the path. 74 ۞ If We had mercy on them and removed their afflictions, they would still persist in their insolence, blindly wandering. 75 We seized them with the punishment, but they did not surrender to their Lord, nor will they humble themselves 76 when We opened on them a gate of severe punishment, they utterly despaired. 77
