He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
