HENCE, [remember how it was] when thy Sustainer summoned Moses: "Go unto those evil doing people. 10 “The nation of Firaun; will they not fear?” 11 He said, “My Lord, I fear that they will deny me.” 12 And my breast straitens, and my tongue is not eloquent, therefore send Thou to Haroun (to help me); 13 They hold a sin against me, and I fear that they will kill me' 14 He said: Nay, verily. So go ye twain with Our tokens. Lo! We shall be with you, Hearing. 15 They came to the Pharaoh and said, "We are the Messengers of the Lord of the Universe. 16 Let the children of Israel go with us!'" 17 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said [to Musa (Moses)]: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child? And you did dwell many years of your life with us. 18 And yet thou didst commit that [heinous] deed of thine, and [hast thus shown that] thou art one of the ingrate!" 19 Moses replied: "I committed that act erringly. 20 So I ran away from you out of fear. But my Lord has given me wisdom, and made me an apostle. 21 And is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?" 22 Pharaoh said: "And what is the 'Lord and Cherisher of the worlds'?" 23 Moses replied, "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you want to be certain". 24 'Do you not hear' said he (Pharaoh) to those around him. 25 Moses said: "(He is) Your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore." 26 (Pharaoh) said: Lo! your messenger who hath been sent unto you is indeed a madman! 27 He said, 'The Lord of the East and West, and what between them is, if you have understanding,' 28 Said he, 'If thou takest a god other than me, I shall surely make thee one of the imprisoned.' 29 (Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing?" 30 (Pharaoh) said: "Show it then, if thou tellest the truth!" 31 He cast down his staff and thereupon it was a clear serpent. 32 And he drew forth his hand and lo! it was white to the beholders. 33
