The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the mount 1 and the Book inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
