The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
