In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
