He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
