Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
