Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 who shall be my inheritor and the inheritor of the House of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, well-pleasing.' 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He submitted, “My Lord – how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
