These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers - 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
