The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 “Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” 10 So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 They will drink cups containing (soft flowing) sparkling water 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
