He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
