The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
