He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
