Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 A warning to mortals, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 about the sinners. 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 we fed not the needy, 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
