The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion regarding him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
Almighty Allah's Truth.
