The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and the roof uplifted 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
