In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
