The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
