The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and defilement flee! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
