The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
