The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
