The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And shade extended 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And exalted thrones. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
