The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
