The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the heaven is sundered. 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 he shall call for destruction 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 by the night and all that it envelops; 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
