We sent to the tribe of Thamud their brother Salih so that they would worship God, but they became two quarrelling groups. 45 'My nation' he said, 'why do you wish to hasten evil rather than good? Why do you not ask the forgiveness of Allah, in order that you find mercy' 46 They said, “We consider you an evil omen, and your companions”; he said, “Your evil omen is with Allah – in fact you people have fallen into trial.” 47 Now in the city there were nine persons who did corruption in the land, and put not things right; 48 They said: "Let us swear by God that we will attack Saleh and his family at night, and later tell his heirs: 'We did not see his family destroyed, and we speak the truth.'" 49 They plotted and We planned without their knowledge. Consider the result of their plot. 50 So see what was the outcome of the plan they made: We utterly destroyed them and their people, all of them. 51 Now behold their houses that lie in utter ruins because of their wrong-doing. Verily there is a Sign in this for the people who know. 52 We deliver those who believe and take heed for themselves. 53 And Lot! when he said unto his folk: Will ye commit abomination knowingly? 54 Would ye go in lustfully unto men instead of women? Aye! ye are a people addicted to ignorant ways. 55 ۞ But the answer of his folk was naught save that they said: Expel the household of Lot from your township, for they (forsooth) are folk who would keep clean! 56 So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; We destined her to be of those who remained behind. 57 We sent to them a terrible rainstorm. How horrible was the rain for the people who had already received warning. 58
