The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
