The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Save worshippers. 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
