He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
