Aaron had indeed told them earlier: "O my people, you are being only misled with this. Surely your Lord is Ar-Rahman. So follow me and obey my command." 90 They replied, "We shall not cease to worship it until Moses returns to us." 91 (Moses) said: "O Aaron! what kept thee back, when thou sawest them going wrong, 92 "From following me? Didst thou then disobey my order?" 93 'Son of my mother' he replied, 'Do not seize my beard nor my head. I was afraid that you might say: "You have divided the Children of Israel and did not uphold my word." 94 Said [Moses]: "What, then, didst thou have in view, O Samaritan?" 95 He said: "I saw what they did not see. I picked up a handful of dust from the messenger's tracks and threw it in, for the idea seemed attractive to me." 96 Musa (Moses) said: "Then go away! And verily, your (punishment) in this life will be that you will say: "Touch me not (i.e. you will live alone exiled away from mankind); and verily (for a future torment), you have a promise that will not fail. And look at your ilah (god), to which you have been devoted. We will certainly burn it, and scatter its particles in the sea." 97 Your God is only One, Allah. There is no god, except He, alone. His knowledge encompasses all things. 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever turns aside from it, he shall surely bear a burden on the day of resurrection 100 And will live for ever under it. How evil the burden they will carry on the Day of Doom! 101 The Day when the Horn shall be blown. On that Day, We shall assemble all the sinners with blued eyes, 102 In whispers will they consult each other: "Yet tarried not longer than ten (Days); 103 We know best what they say, when the fairest of them in course would say: You tarried but a day. 104
