The Companions of the Wood rejected the messengers. 176 Shu'ayb asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 177 I am a trustworthy messenger to you: 178 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 179 I ask no recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 180 ۞ Give full measure, and cause no loss to others. 181 And weigh with a balance straight. 182 And do not withhold from people what belongs to them, and do not corrupt the land; 183 Have fear of the One who has created you and the generations that lived before you." 184 They said: "You are only one of those bewitched! 185 you are only a mortal like us. Indeed we believe that you are an utter liar. 186 So cause a fragment of the sky to fall on us, if you are truthful." 187 He said: My Lord knows best what you do. 188 In response they denied him – therefore the punishment of the day of the tent* seized them; that was indeed a punishment of a Great Day. (The clouds formed a tent and rained fire upon them). 189 Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 190 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 191
