The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and raised couches 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
