The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
