Al-Zukhruf 5 of 7

THUS, INDEED, have We sent Moses with Our messages unto Pharaoh and his great ones; and he said: "Behold, I am an apostle of the Sustainer of all the worlds!" 46 But when he brought to them Our signs they laughed at them, 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 They said, "Sorcerer, call on your Lord for us, by virtue of His pledge to you: we shall certainly accept guidance," 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, lo! they broke the pledge. 50 The Pharaoh shouted to his people, "My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine? and can you not see that the streams flow from beneath my palace? 51 Am I (not) better than him who is contemptible, and cannot even express himself clearly? 52 Why have no armlets of gold been given him, or angels sent down successively with him' 53 So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allah]. 54 And when they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all. 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
